PRECISIONheor Study Leads to New Legislation
The recently proposed Cost of Mental Illness Act of 2022 authorizes groundbreaking studies to determine the prevalence of schizophrenia and obtain more detailed costs data from all sectors to determine the full societal cost impact of serious mental illness. The Act is a direct result of “The Societal Costs of Schizophrenia and Related Disorders,” a white paper and associated research released late last year.
PRECISIONheor’s Kyi-Sin Than, Kelly Birch, MPH, Jacki Chou, and James Baumgardner served as contracted members of the report team. Evidence from the research and white paper was used to show the serious issues in this population and highlight the importance of current and complete data so other legislation/programs are accurately designed and measured overtime.
